Tile and wastage settings

A straight lay is shown. Edge tiles are almost always cut on site; the wastage allowance above covers this.

How this works. Each tile's coverage is worked out from the tile size plus one grout joint width, so the tile count already allows a little for the joints. Tiles required is the area divided by that coverage, increased by the wastage percentage and rounded up to a whole tile. Boxes are rounded up to a whole box. Tile sizes, box quantities and prices vary by supplier — confirm the exact figures on the box before you order, and buy a little extra for future repairs.
